Bride of Frankenfooter 5K
Frankenfooter Half Marathon
Port Richey, Florida
Saturday and Sunday, October 26 and 27, 2013

On Saturday, October 26, 2013 and Sunday, October 27, 2013 I completed the Frankenfooter Living Dead Challenge by finishing the Bride of Frankenfooter 5K on Saturday, October 26, 2013 and the Frankenfooter Half Marathon on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Port Richey, Florida. The Saturday race saw sunny skies, temperatures in the 70’s, and very little breeze while the Sunday race saw sunny skies, temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s, and very little breeze. Both of the races saw an almost flat course on roads that were opened to traffic but fortunately the traffic was very sparse and drove slowly to keep the participants safe. There were a few police at key intersections plus many volunteers and arrows painted on the roadways to make the courses very east to follow. Water/Powerade stations were generally located 1.5 to 3 miles apart and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. I would have preferred the stations to be closer together in the half marathon as I became quite dehydrated despite drinking 2 or 3 partly filled glasses at each station. The event was very well organized and fun to do. The age group awards for this event is unique. First place was a plastic severed foot. Second place was a plastic skeleton head. Third place was a plastic severed hand. The event theme was a parody of the Frankenstein story. My wife, Gerda, and I had a very successful event for awards as Gerda received 3 finishers medals and 2 first place female 65-69 runner age group awards and I received 3 finishers medals and second place male 65-69 runner age group award in the 5K and a first place male 65-69 runner age group award in the half marathon despite race walking the entire events which surprised me greatly.

On October 18 and 19, 2013 I attended the 50th reunion of my high school graduation in 1963. In 1957 my parents bought a new house at 11494 Flagler Lane in Forest Park, Ohio. This allowed me, to attend the Community Building which served as both the Junior and Senior High School in the Greenhills School District in Greenhills, Ohio Our school mascot was the Pioneer We were the 25th and last graduating class from the Community Building Barbara Brown whose is now Barbara Butler was the Valedictorian and I was the Salutatorian The Alumni Association has created a wonderful collection of Greenhills High School memorabilia in the old band room of the Community Building Many of my classmates attended the reunion buffet dinner at 6:30 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Embassy Suites in Blue Ash, Ohio. I promised myself that if I lived long enough and my class had a 50th reunion that I would go. I am very glad that I went as I had a wonderful time re-meeting my classmates that I have not seen for over 50 years. Thank you everyone who was involved with putting on this event.
