United Technologies Hartford Marathon
Hartford, Connecticut
Saturday, October 13, 2007
Saturday, October 13, 2007, was a perfect day to race-walk the United Technologies Hartford Marathon. The temperatures ranged from 45 to 60. It was sunny and there was little wind. The course was mostly flat with several small hills in the last six miles. There were water stations every mile with plenty of wonderful volunteers. The police controlled traffic excellently. I enjoyed the race tremendously.
There was one major disappointment, however. When I reached the finish, there were no more finisher medals left. There were 171 people who finished after me. The race advertised that every finisher would receive a medal as is normal in marathons. Many finishers left the area after making some very negative comments. I looked for someone in charge and found the race director. She said that they had other medals locked away and hoped everyone would contact her so she could mail them out. I wonder how many first time marathoners would know to do this.
