Jacksonville Bank Marathon
Jacksonville, Florida
Sunday, December 16, 2007
Sunday, December 16, 2007 saw me race walk the Jacksonville Bank Marathon in Jacksonville, Florida. The course is one of the flattest courses in existence and the race is well organized with plenty of enthusiastic volunteers who attended water/Powerade stations every two miles. There were plenty of policemen to control traffic; however, some of the course had roads that the participants had to share with the traffic. The start of the race was very warm; however, the temperature dropped and the wind picked up as the race progressed, making the end of the race at a very pleasant marathon temperature. There was heavy rain over night which made the course wet but fortunately it stopped a half hour before the race began. The event is limited to 2500 people in the half marathon and marathon combined with the majority doing the half marathon. It was a nice event and I have enjoyed myself each of the 5 years I have done this event.
