Marathon of the Palm Beaches
West Palm Beach, Florida
Sunday, December 02, 2007

I race walked the Marathon of the Palm Beaches on Sunday, December 2, 2007 in West Palm Beach, Florida. This was the fourth year for the event and I have done it each year. The course for this marathon is very flat. There are water/Gatorade stations every mile or mile and a half, maintained by enthusiastic volunteers. The event is first rate having 700 in the marathon and 2600 in the associated half marathon. The weather was a little on the warm side and mostly sunny but fortunately there was a little breeze that made the near 80 degree temperatures more tolerable. The course takes the competitors past the finish line at mile 13.1 and 20.6 along the water. This seems to make the last 6 miles harder.
Bart Yasso from Runners World was at the race. I talked to him Saturday when I saw him in downtown West Palm Beach on Saturday. I also talked to him before the race on Sunday. He remembers me from talking to him at other races. He spoke at the exposition on Saturday afternoon and was part of the television broadcast on Sunday. When I passed the broadcast booth at mile 13.1 he cheered for the Key West Southernmost Walker. I really appreciated that. I once again enjoyed this event.
