Coeur d’Alene Marathon
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
Sunday, May 25, 2008

Sunday, May 25, 2008 saw me race walk the Coeur d’Alene Marathon in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The walkers had an early start at 5:30 AM even though there was no walking division for awards. There were at least 100 marathon and half marathon walkers. The day was wonderful for the race as the temperature varied from 46 to 68 degrees, with almost no wind and some overcast. The out and back course utilized about 12 miles of streets and 14 miles of a bike path that was paved. For the most part the course followed near the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene and remained relatively flat; however, there was a three-fourth mile uphill section and three-fourth mile downhill section between miles ten and twelve that was repeated in the opposite direction between miles fourteen and sixteen that was somewhat challenging. Water stations with Gatorade were located approximately every two miles. The course was designed to not need much traffic control and police did an excellent job in the few places where they were needed. Once again I enjoyed myself.
