UCC Coffee Kona Marathon
Kona, Hawaii
Sunday, June 29, 2008
The UCC Coffee Kona Marathon was held on Sunday, June 29, 2008 in Kona, Hawaii. The course follows much of the Marathon part of the Iron Man competition. As expected the weather was rather warm, especially along the shoulder of the main highway and the side road near the airport which was miles 7 through 20. The race was a small even with 255 in the marathon. There were plenty of volunteers at the water stations which were spaced every 1.5 miles on average. Because of the 80+ degree heat, I took it a little easy. My finish of the marathon made my 40th state. Within 2 minutes of the finish in a race which did not use computer chips, I was given a card that gave my complete results in the event. That impressed me tremendously.
I have been away from Key West from June 18, 2008 to July 3, 2008 and have completed the Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska and the UCC Coffee Kona Marathon in Kona, Hawaii. I have a very large amount of pictures from this trip which will be posted in later postings.
