Baltimore Marathon
Baltimore, Maryland
Saturday, October 11, 2008

My latest marathon was in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, October 11, 2008. The temperature at the start of the race was 58 degrees and 75 degrees when I finished. The course was through the inner city of Baltimore and crossed many intersections, requiring 1 to 3 policemen at each place. There was at least 500 policemen controlling traffic and they did an excellent job. Water and Gatorade stations were located approximately every two miles and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volenteers. Many of the residents along the route came out to cheer the participants and enjoy the beautiful sunny day that had a plesant small breeze. The course featured many hills, the renewed waterfront, and a trip around Fort McHenry; however, the inner city was not that scenic for the majority of the course. The event was well organized and offerred $18000 to both the men's and women's champion; thus, many elite athletes ran the event. I enjoyed the event and am looking forward to the next two weeks when I hope to finish my quest to do a marathon in each of the 50 states plus DC.
