Space Coast Marathon
Cocoa, Florida
Sunday, November 30, 2008

I race walked the Space Coast Marathon in Cocoa, Florida on Sunday, November 30, 2008. It was somewhat warm, 62 to 76 degrees, and windy, 15-30 mph. Fortunately the rain occurred after the race had ended. The pre-race dinner is included in the entry and was nice as usual. However, Dick Beardsley who was to be the speaker was unable to attend because of complications with his knee surgery. Thus, there was no speaker except the race director. The Space Coast Marathon use to be a small event, but it has grown to 1800 which made the course somewhat crowed for almost 3.5 miles. I hope the event does not get any bigger since the course cannot handle a larger field. Water/Gatorade stations were located every mile and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers who for the most part were local cross country runners. The police controlled the traffic well. There were several participants from the Florida Keys. I once again enjoyed myself at this event.
