Salt Lake City Marathon
Salt Lake City, Utah
Saturday, April 18, 2009

Saturday, April 18, 2009 was an excellent day to race walk the Salt Lake City Marathon in Salt Lake City, Utah. The temperature ranged from 40 to 60 degrees. The sky was partly cloudy and there was little wind. The race started at an altitude of 4800 feet and ended at an altitude of 4200 feet. There were only a few uphill portions in the course. The road was completely closed to traffic with every intersection controlled by police officers. Water/Gatorade stations were located every 1.5 to 2.5 miles and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. Spectators were located throughout the course and several musical groups played along the route. The marathon was very well organized and the scenery was especially beautiful. For several days prior to the race it had snowed above 5000 feet so the mountains were covered with snow. The flowering trees along the route had bloomed as did the daffodils and tulips. I enjoyed myself tremendously.

Hi Chester! I am so happy I found your blog. It was great meeting you at the SLC marathon, and I agree, the weather was perfect :). LOVE your photos - they are gorgeous, and I have added you to my newsreader so I can see all the places you go.

Great job at the race and keep it up!

FYI, I actually did 26.2 myself that day, coaching our Team in Training runners & walkers. It was great fun. Next stop is the Seattle RNR Marathon on June 27th; I'll be coaching there too.

Hope to see you around again!
