Cox Sport Marathon

Providence, Rhode Island

Sunday, May 3, 2009

I race walked the Cox Sport Marathon in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday, May 3, 2009. It was a good day for a marathon as the rain only occurred before and after the race. The temperature ranged between 48 and 62 degrees with little wind and overcast skies. The course utilized roads (2/3) and bike paths (1/3) and much up and down that for the most part was not very steep. There was one 100 yard down hill that was quite steep, unfortunately. Every intersection was either controlled by the police or numerous volunteers and there were a few spectators along the route. There were many water/Gatorade stations; however, there spacing was such that you never knew when the next one would occur. The distance between these stations varied between 0.5 miles and 3 miles. Only some of the stations had Gatorade and again you never knew which until arriving. There were plenty of enthusiastic volunteers attending the stations. Except for the water stations, the event was very well organized and I enjoyed myself.
