Delaware Half Marathon
Wilmington, Delaware
Sunday, May 16, 2010
The temperature ranged from 60 to 65 degrees, the sky was overcast, and the wind was between 5 and 10 mph when I race walked the Delaware Half Marathon in Wilmington, Delaware on Sunday, May 16, 2010. I was great weather for this very enjoyable race. The course, which was closed to traffic and controlled by plenty of police, had gentle hills; however, a one mile climb of about 100 feet of elevation was located between miles 6 and 7. There was also a half mile climb after mile 12. Water/Gatorade stations were located between 1 and 2.5 miles apart and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. There were quite a few spectators for this relatively small, well organized, fun event which reached capacity early with 675 marathoners, 800 half marathoners, and 700 relay participants this year. The previous two years I did the marathon. I recommend this event to anyone who wishes to travel to Delaware to do a race.
