Rochester Half Marathon
Rochester, New York
Sunday, September 12, 2010
There was a misty rain with a temperature of 58 degrees and a light breeze when I began the Rochester Half Marathon in Rochester, New York on Sunday, September 12, 2010. The conditions stayed fairly constant throughout the entire event. The course was mostly flat with rolling hills and had 9 miles on paved roads and 4 miles on a paved bike path near the Erie Canal and Genesee River. The roads were closed to traffic and intersections were controlled by police officers. Water/Gatorade stations were located approximately 1.5 miles apart and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. There were some spectators along the course and a large number at the finish line which was located by Frontier Field the home of Rochester’s minor league baseball team. The race was well organized. I enjoyed myself despite the misty drizzle and was lucky that the heavy rain occurred a couple hours before the event and three hours after the event. The day before the race was a beautiful, sunny, 72 degree day and Gerda and I enjoyed Niagara Falls which is about an hour and a half drive west of Rochester.
