First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon
Sarasota, Florida
Sunday, March 13, 2011
The temperature ranged from 48 to 65 degrees with clear skies and some breeze as I race walked the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon in Sarasota, Florida on Sunday, March 13, 2011. The course was mostly flat with the exception of two trips over the inter-coastal waterway on a bridge having an elevation of 70 feet. The primary roads utilized for the course had lanes completely closed to traffic for the participants and other lanes dedicated to the traffic. The secondary roads were mainly devoid of traffic and wondered through neighborhoods having very upscale housing. Police and other volunteers did an excellent job of ensuring the safety of the nearly 3000 participants. Water/Gatorade stations were located every two miles and were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. My friend and fellow Marathon Maniac, Dane Rauschenberg, had a book signing at the packet pick-up and ran the event as well. The event was very well organized and fun to do.
