Kathrine Switzer with my wife, Gerda, at the exposition before the Hartford Marathon. Katherine is noted as the first woman to be officially entered in the 1967 New York Marathon at a time when woman were not allowed to compete. The race director tried to take her bib number 261 from her and force her off the course; however, with the help of some other competitors she managed to finish and win the right for women to compete.
