Thunder Road Half Marathon
Charlotte, North Carolina
Saturday, November 15, 2014

On Saturday, November 15, 2014 I race walked the Thunder Road Half Marathon in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was cold as the start temperature was 25 degree and the temperature when I finished was near 40 degrees. The skies were sunny and there was only a little breeze. The course was mostly not too challenging ups and downs with some flat areas on roadways which were closed to traffic or had dedicated lanes for the runners. I have never seen so many police officers controlling traffic with 1 to 4 stationed at every intersection and there were plenty of intersections. Water/Gatorade stations were located every 2 miles and had plenty of enthusiastic, efficient volunteers taking care of the needs of the participants which had 2729 finishers in the half marathon and 953 finishers in the full marathon. There were numerous, cheering spectators throughout the course despite the cold. The race was very well organized and fun. I have done the event several times in the past and it was moved from December to November to avoid the cold; however, this day was colder than any of the previous days I have done the event.
