EAU Palm Beach Half Marathon
West Palm Beach, Florida
Sunday, December 6, 2015
On Sunday, December 6, 2015 when I did the Eau Palm Beach Half Marathon in West Palm Beach, Florida, I expected to have a miserable event with heavy rain and strong winds predicted at the 70% level. For the three days prior to the event all of South Florida has been experiencing this type of weather and it was to continue until Monday. Every participant received a wonderful surprise. There was no rain throughout the event. The temperatures were hot, ranging from 75 degrees at the start to near 80 degrees at the finish. The winds were 10 to 15 mph with gusts into the 20’s. I actually was grateful that the winds were blowing as it helped make the warm temperatures bearable for the first 11 miles. The course was for the most part flat with a few slight up and downs. Water/Gatorade stations were located every 1.5 miles and had plenty of volunteers taking care of the needs of the participants. The roadways utilized for the event were completely closed to traffic and police controlled traffic at a few intersections where it was necessary for some traffic to cross the course. As a result of the new race directors for the past two years, the event has gotten back to being very well organized and fun to do. There were about 1700 participants in the half marathon this year. I have done this event all 12 years of its existence and am looking forward to next year’s edition.
