Fargo Half Marathon
Fargo, North Dakota
Saturday, May 21, 2016
Saturday. May 21, 2016 was a nice day to do the Fargo
Half Marathon in Fargo, North Dakota as the skies were sunny, there was no
wind, and the temperature ranged from 62 to 70 degrees with little
humidity. The Half Marathon had 4425
finishers and there was also a Marathon and 10K. The race began and finished inside the
Fargodome and used a mostly flat out and back course on city roads that were
completely closed to traffic.
Intersections were controlled by police and other volunteers. Water/Powerade station were located from 1 to
2 miles part and were manned by plenty of efficient, enthusiastic
volunteers. With such nice weather
spectators were numerous throughout the entire course cheering for all the
participants. There was also many live
bands playing all types of music and several DJs playing recorded music. Since there was prise money offered to the
overall top three places in each event, several world class athletes competed
in each event. My friend, Larry Macon
from San Antonio, Texas who has completed nearly 1700 marathons in his lifetime
and Chuck “Marathon Junkie” Engle who has won a marathon in all 50 states and
who now is one marathon away from completing a marathon in all 50 states under
3 hours twice, were doing the marathon. This
is the third time that I have done the Fargo Half Marathon and as always I
enjoyed the very well organized, fun event.
