Steamboat Springs Half Marathon
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Sunday, June 5, 2016
Sunday, June 5, 2016 was a nice day to do the
Steamboat Springs Half Marathon in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The temperature ranged from 46 to 64 degrees
with sunny skies and no wind. The course
was a point to point course that started up county road 129 and finished in
front of the court house in Steamboat Springs.
The two lane road had the participants on one side and the cars on the
other using a pilot car to lead the small amount of traffic in one direction
then the new traffic in the other direction.
The highway section into the city used either the shoulder of the road
or a dedicated lane where one was available.
The start was near 7500 feet of elevation and the finish was about 6800
feet of elevation with much up and down in between. Some of the hills were fairly steep. Water/Powerade stations were located
approximately every two miles beginning at mile 3 and were manned by plenty of
friendly efficient volunteers. Age group
awards were somewhat disappointing as it was a generic glass with a SBS sticker
that did not state the sex, the age group, the place, or the date. This was the second time that I participated
in this event which is well organized and enjoyable. I even managed to get second place in my Male
70&over running age group even though I walked the entire way.
