Marshall Half Marathon
Huntington, West Virginia
Sunday, November 5, 2017
On Sunday, November 5, 2017 I race walked the Marshall
Half Marathon in Huntington, West Virginia.
The temperature remained in the 60’s with little wind and mostly cloudy
skies. The course consisted of 11 miles
of paved roads and 2 miles of packed fine gravel and sand. The roads were closed to traffic; however,
many police officers were needed at intersections to protect the 1500
participants in the full and half marathon and allow the traffic to cross the
field when gaps were big enough to allow it.
Water/Gatorade stations were located every 1.5 miles and were located on
both sides of the road with plenty of friendly efficient volunteers to take
care of the needs of the participants.
The event is very well organized and had a unique finish as the participants
entered the Marshall University Football Stadium and ran down the center of the
field to finish in one of the end zones.
Souvenir footballs were provided to those who wanted to score a
touchdown in the process. This is the
second time that I have done this event and each were very worthwhile
experiences.
