Ocean City New Jersey Half Marathon
Ocean City, New Jersey
Sunday, September 30, 2018
On Sunday, September 30, 2018 I race walked the Ocean
City New Jersey Half Marathon in Ocean City, New Jersey. The temperature varied from 56 to 73 degrees
with sunny skies and a gentle breeze. The
course was a loop and an out and back journey consisting of 6 miles of paved
roadways with two crossings of a high level bridge, 2.5 miles of boardwalk, 3
miles of paved roadways, ending in 1.6 miles of boardwalk. The paved roads had police officers and
volunteers controlling traffic at all intersections keeping the 1108 finishers
in the half marathon safe. On the
boardwalk cones and ropes kept a corridor clear for the participants. Volunteers and a few police officers ensured
that other people did not interfere with the event. Water/Gatorade stations were located every
one to two miles and where manned by plenty of friendly volunteers. However, several of the stations had many
young children that did not understand what they were supposed to do to make
the liquid reach the participants efficiently.
This was the first time that I have done this event. The event was very well organized and fun to
do. I enjoyed myself as usual even
though my performance was not up to the results that I had hoped for. I did finish which was the most important thing.
