Thunder Road Marathon
Charlotte, North Carolina
Saturday, December 8, 2007

For the second year in a row I race walked the Thunder Road Marathon in Charlotte, North Carolina. This year’s race was held on Saturday, December 8, 2007. The course is very challenging as you are going up or down almost continuously. The day started around 44 degrees and climbed to 65 degrees by the end of the race with a gentle breeze and sunshine. The starting line was in front of the Charlotte Convention Center, which was open before the race, allowing competitors to use indoor restrooms and remain warm inside until just before the race began. The event was well organized and had plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. Water-Powerade stations were spaced every two miles. For a big city race there were not very many spectators; however, the ones that watched cheered for everyone. There were police stationed at almost every intersection to control the traffic which in several places backed up for great distances. As usual I enjoyed myself.
