Louisville Half Marathon
Louisville, Kentucky
Sunday, November 10, 2013

I race walked the Louisville Half Marathon in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, November 10, 2013. The temperature varied from 44 to 50 degrees with 5 to 10 mph winds and sunny skies. The course was a combination of 9 miles of relatively flat roadways and 4 miles of hilly roadways between miles 3.5 and 7.5 through a park and a cemetery. One of the three major hills was nearly a mile of climbing. The roadways were completely closed to traffic with 2 to 4 police officers at every intersection and some driveways out of businesses. Water/Gatorade stations were located every 1.5 miles; however, by the time I reached the stations, all but one had run out of Gatorade. The last three stations only gave about ½ inch of water in the cup which probably meant that the stations were also running low on water. The stations were manned by plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. There were some spectators located along the route that cheered the participants as they went by. The amount of spectators was somewhat less than usually appear along a big city course. I enjoyed myself and found the event having 1947 finishers was well organized and worth doing. I do wish the water/Gatorade stations were better supplied.
