Daytona Beach Half Marathon
Daytona Beach, Florida
February 5, 2017

I race walked the Daytona Beach Half Marathon in Daytona Beach, Florida on February 5, 2017.  The temperature was 56 to 64 degrees with little breeze and cloudy skies with high humidity for the first hour.  The course started in the Daytona International Speedway on Pit Road, went most of the way around the track, out to the main road and side streets, onto the beach sand for 1/4 mile, back onto the roads, into the Speedway, and finishing on Pit Road just short of the start line.  Water/Gatorade stations were located from 1 to 1.5 miles apart and for the most part were manned by plenty of friendly, enthusiastic, efficient volunteers; however, 2 stations were somewhat short- handed.  Police and volunteers were numerous ensuring that the participants and traffic remained separated.  Major intersections often had quite a bit of traffic backed up.  I love doing this race which has always been well organized and fun to do.  I have done the half marathon 4 times.
