Blue Angel Rock N Fly Half Marathon
Pensacola, Florida
Saturday, March 17, 2018
On Saturday, March 17, 2018 I race walked the Blue
Angel Rock N Fly Half Marathon in Pensacola, Florida. It was a warm day for the race of 1200
participants in the half marathon as the temperature started at 66 degrees and
overcast skies which changed to mostly sunny skies with the temperature rising
to 76 degrees and little breeze. There
was also a 5 K. The event was completely
staged in the Pensacola Naval Air Station on base roads which were completely
closed to traffic and had armed military personal everywhere completely
securing the event and ensuring the safety of everyone. The course was relatively flat with some
gentle up and downs included.
Water/Gatorade stations were located approximately every 1.5 miles and
had plenty of friendly efficient volunteers taking care of the needs of the
participants. Gatorade was only
available at half of the stations. Rock
and Roll Music from amplified sources was played throughout the course and a
live band performed at the post race party.
This is the fourth time that I have completed the half marathon in the
five years this event has been held. At
the opening ceremony the event started as a three jet formation flew overhead
(They were not Blue Angel Jets as the Blue Angels were elsewhere giving a
performance.). The event has always been
well organized fun to do. I enjoyed
myself as usual.
