Little Rock Half Marathon
Little Rock, Arkansas
Sunday, March 4, 2018
On Sunday, March 4, 2018 I race walked the Little Rock
Half Marathon in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The temperature varied from 43 to 52 degrees with cloudy skies and rain
and drizzle after I completed mile 6 and little wind. The course was on paved city roads that were
completely closed to traffic with police controlling intersections. There was quite a bit of up and down with no
hills that were very challenging.
Water/Gatorade stations were located approximately every 2.25 miles and
had plenty of friendly efficient volunteers taking care of the needs of the
3428 participants who completed the half marathon and 1559 participants who completed
the full marathon. Tables were not
spread out and caused quite a lot of crowding at every station and it would
also have been nicer if stations were closer than 2.25 miles apart. I have done this event 7 times, completing
the marathon 4 times and the half marathon 3 times. The event has always been well organized and
fun to do, featuring a very large finisher’s medal. This year’s event saw the start and finish in
the same place behind the Convention Center which was open from 1.5 hours
before the event started until 1 hour after the event ended which was
especially appreciated by offering a warm place to wait for the event to begin
and a dry place to get out of the rain and enjoy the post race activities. I enjoyed myself as usual.
