Sioux Falls Half Marathon
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Sunday, September 9, 2018
On Sunday, September 9, 2018 I race walked the Sioux
Falls Half Marathon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It was a very nice day for the event as the
temperature varied from 53 to 67 degrees with mostly sunny skies and a gentle
breeze. The Denny Sanford Premier Center
was utilized for the race exposition as well as all the start and finish
activities, having the start and finish line inside the building like they do
in Fargo, North Dakota. The course
utilized paved roads and bike paths which was about half flat and half hilly
with no challenging hills. There was
quite a bit of ruts in the roadways and some on the bike paths. Police and volunteers were stationed at all
of the turns and intersections ensuring that the 311 marathon, 1257 half
marathoners, 317 10K, and 513 5K finishers were safe and remained on the proper
course. Water/Powerade stations were
located approximately every 2 miles and had plenty of friendly, efficient,
enthusiastic volunteers taking care of the needs of the participants. The event is extremely well organized and
fun. This is the first time that I have
completed this event and I enjoyed myself.
