Goodyear Half Marathon
Akron, Ohio
Saturday, August 10, 2019
On Saturday, August 10, 2019 I race walked the
Goodyear Half Marathon in Akron, Ohio.
The race started and ended at the International Headquarters of the
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Corporation. The course was on city roads that were
completely closed to traffic and friendly police officers were stationed at
every intersection to control traffic.
There were almost no flat areas on the course; however, there were also
no challenging hills. A six inch wide
blue line was painted along the entire side of every road to mark the
course. I really appreciate how easy the
course was to follow. Water/Electrolyte
stations were located and were manned by plenty of friendly enthusiastic
efficient volunteers to take care of the needs of the 848 finishers in the half
marathon and the 1335 finishers in the 10K. I never heard of the electrolyte
drink but it tasted okay. Every station
had water first and electrolyte second and consisted of several tables to help
eliminate crowding. The weather was
mostly cloudy with gentle or no breeze and a temperature that varied from 62 to
71 degrees. The event was extremely well
organized and fun with a finisher’s medal in the shape of a small tire. This is the second time that I have done the
Goodyear Half Marathon and I look forward to again doing the event next year.
