Run The Bluegrass Half Marathon
Keeneland, Lexington, Kentucky
Saturday, March 31, 2018
On Saturday, March 31, 2018 I race walked the Run The
Bluegrass Half Marathon in Keeneland, Lexington, Kentucky. The weather started out at 35 degrees and
sunny skies with little wind at 9:15 AM in the Keeneland Horse Complex. By the time I finished it was 51 degrees and
partly sunny skies and a 10 to 15 mph breeze.
The course was challenging with constant up and downs which were not
very long but oftentimes somewhat steep on paved roads through the horse farm
area outside Lexington, Kentucky. The
roads were completely closed to traffic with all intersections blocked by
police officers and their vehicles.
Water stations were located approximately every 1.5 miles and were
manned by plenty of friendly efficient volunteers taking care of the needs of
the 3176 people who finished the half marathon and 809 people who finished the
7 mile race. Unfortunately electrolyte
drinks, brand named Sword were only offered at two of the stations. I am use to drinking electrolytes drinks at
each station during a race. This was the
first time that I have done this event which was well organized, scenic, and
fun to do. Another member of the Key
West Southernmost Runners named Marada Phillips also completed the half
marathon.
