Horseneck Half Marathon
Horseneck Beach State Reservation, Massachusetts
Sunday, May 20, 2018
On Sunday, May 20, 2018 I completed the Horseneck Half
Marathon in Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Massachusetts. The temperature remained constant at about 53
degrees with fog, mist, overcast skies, and a breeze of 15 mph with higher
gusts. The wind chill made it somewhat
cold in the many exposed areas especially in the last 1.5 miles and all of the
after race events. The course was on
paved roads that were not closed to traffic which for the most part was sparse
and respected sharing the road with the nearly 900 participants. There was quite a bit of up and down with a
few short hills somewhat challenging.
There were not enough water/Gatorade stations as there were only 4
spaced about 4 miles apart. There were
enough friendly efficient volunteers braving the weather to take care of the
needs of the participants. The finisher’s
medal was not very impressive and my third place age group award was a water
bottle that had the name of the race but no other information. The race was well organized and would have
been more fun if the weather had not been so unpleasant.
