Marine Corps Marathon
Sunday, October 28, 2007
Sunday, October 28, 2007 was a perfect day to race walk the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. The temperature was in the 50’s and 60’s with sun and some wind. The Marines put on a first class event that had water-PowerAde stations every two miles that were manned by Marines. The Marines also did an excellent job of controlling traffic with the help of Washington, DC Police. There were large crowds of cheering spectators along the majority of the course which took the competitors near almost every major landmark in Washington, DC. The marathon had a very large amount of entries that made the middle of the pack somewhat crowded, especially at water stations; however, I expected that. Marine Lieutenants handed out the finisher medals near the Iwo Jima Monument in Arlington National Cemetery.
The post race party had a free concert by the Spin Doctors, a famous rock band from the early 1990’s. It made a wonderful ending to a great day. I always enjoy visiting the nation’s capital.
