Ocean City Half Marathon
Ocean City, New Jersey
Sunday, September 29, 2019
On Sunday, September 29, 2019 I race walked the Ocean City Half Marathon in Ocean City, New Jersey. It was a nice day for the event as the temperature was in the low 70’s with sunny skies and 10 mph breeze. The course was relatively flat except for two crossings of a high level bridge- out between miles 2 and 3 and back between miles 4 and 5. City roads were utilized between the start and mile six and also between miles eight and eleven. The rest of the course was on the wooden Ocean City Boardwalk. All roads were completely closed to traffic with police and volunteers controlling the intersections and entries to the Boardwalk. The 1001 finishers in the half marathon, the 133 finishers in the 10 miler, and the 507 finishers in the 5K had their liquid needs satisfied at the water or water/Gatorade stations located approximately every mile. There were plenty of friendly efficient mostly high school volunteers at each station. This is the second consecutive time that I have completed this well-organized fun event. I even managed to earn third place in my Male 70-74 Running Age Group even though I walked the entire way.
